Bioteka - udruga za promicanje biologije i srodnih znanosti

Enrol your child in Bioteka’s STEAM Summer Camp!

After a turbulent and uncertain, as well as rather unusual school year, summer is coming. We hope that the worst is behind us and that there are many good things to come in the summer. One of them, which your children will particularly enjoy, comes in the form of Bioteka’s STEM summer science camp. Below you can read about the great programme we have prepared for you and enrol your children in our summer camp.

At our STEM camps, we practice critical thinking, exercise patience and work on fine motor skills, while adopting good work and lifestyles habits. How do we do that? At our long-established and carefully designed STEM workshops and activities based on the DIY principle, our expert management encourages children to think, ask questions, communicate, listen to and understand others and to explore the world around them. This camp will undoubtedly awaken their inner scientist!

What will our day look like?

Every day has a particular theme and we start it off with breakfast and conversation. We believe that talking to children is very important, which children themselves prove by being an inexhaustible source of conversation topics, constantly asking questions and sharing their impressions and experiences – we will not be only listening to them, but also have in-depth discussions with them. This is followed by STEM workshops. Since we have no time limits, we have modified and customised the workshops so that children are able to explore as much as possible and adapt our “protocols” to suit them. After we explore everything we are interested in, we will tidy up our workspace and enjoy the scheduled free time by going for walks, playing a range of fun board games or holding creative workshops. After lunch, we will wash the dishes and continue with our themed exploration using science kits, models, puzzles, and brain and didactic games.

A brief outline:

8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Breakfast

9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. STEM workshops

11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Free time

1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Themed creative and practical afternoon activities

Thematic schedule:

Monday,
29 June
Let us learn about the microworld! We will explore microorganisms such as yeast and all the tiny things we can get our hands on. What is more, we are not afraid to zoom in 1,000 times!
Tuesday,
30 June
How to get free energy? Wind, water, solar energy and our energy – we will build models, bridges, buildings…
Wednesday, 1 JulySecrets of the human body! From head to toe, inside and out, from the invisible to the visible – not even DNA can hide from us.
Thursday,
2 July
A trip to the distant past! Space, evolution, fossils and our imagination will take us to the very beginning…
Friday,
3 July
All for water and water for all! Why is water so important, what does it hide and how can we clean it? Not a problem for our bag of science! Feel free to bring a sample of water from the tap, spring, puddle, etc. that you want us to analyse. 😊
Monday,
6 July
Code and build! How to connect two unrelated research sets? How to make a nice robot move? And what about coding…? Children know all about it!
Tuesday,
7 July
How can we study food? We will carefully examine why particular groceries are healthier than others, why some are more sour and some sweeter… And where is caries in all of that?!
Wednesday, 8 JulyWhy is it important to think about waste? There is so much talk about waste and recycling, but we will go even deeper – we will learn about the how and the why!
Thursday,
9 July
Magical chemistry! Protective coats, goggles and gloves are ready – soil for analysis, pH, colourful flame – it is not just a wow effect, but also an aha moment! Feel free to bring a sample of soil from a pot, garden, park, forest, etc. that you want us to analyse. 😊
Friday,
10 July
Let us explore biodiversity! How can a single blade of grass tell us an astonishing story? What is a flower, and what is this six-legged creature? We will collect samples, determine and explore local biodiversity – we will become real field biologists! After lunch, we will pay a visit to the Botanical Garden!
