Dear readers,
meet Marta!
Marta is highly talented in programming, loves spending time with her school’s robotics team, and finds relaxation in solving math problems. Unfortunately, Marta finds school extremely boring—she feels like she’s watching the same movie over and over again, knowing every word by heart. Now, at just 12 years old, Marta dreams of one day becoming an engineer, creating innovative solutions, and changing the world.
Marta’s parents struggle with mental and physical illnesses; only one of them is employed, and her sister Iva has special needs, requiring most of the family’s attention and care. Every month, her parents find creative ways to make ends meet, and with so many expenses, they simply cannot afford the high-quality education Marta needs to grow into a happy, educated, and fulfilled young woman—one who can contribute to society in the way she deserves! Without our help, her dream will sadly remain out of reach.
Our Mission
On Friday, December 6, 2024, Marta’s story was selected as one of the winners at the Pitch Day of Erste Bank’s Leave a Good Mark program, earning her a spot among the top 3 finalists of the year!
Why? Because this holiday season, Bioteka has set out to find all the Martas whose dreams have been cut short too soon. These are not just girls, but also boys, who, due to family and social circumstances, have been denied the quality education they absolutely deserve! The Martas and Lukas of this world live right here in our neighborhoods—talented, motivated, and gifted children who, despite financial struggles, spend their time reading about Mars colonization, thinking about solutions to the climate crisis, worrying about the global loss of biodiversity, and coming up with ways to create a better world. Let’s help them! Let’s support equal opportunities for talented children in Croatia—children who will become tomorrow’s innovators, creatives, and leaders!
How Can You Help?
For 15 years, we have been accelerating progress in Croatian society by developing high-quality educational programs tailored to the real needs of children and young people. Our award-winning project Creating Opportunities for Our Talents provides a year-long, free STEM program for 40 children from vulnerable groups in Zagreb. This program will not only give children like Marta and Luka access to quality education but will also ensure 50% female participation—actively addressing the gender gap in STEM, which starts at an early age!
The annual cost of the project is €24,500, and so far, we have raised €3,500.
Your donation will help us cover the remaining costs and provide children with an education they would otherwise not be able to afford.
